About Immunity

(2) Macrophages

The macrophage is a cell that plays a central role in innate immunity and has the special function of “phagocytosis” of foreign matter. For example, macrophages “eat” and process substances such as pathogenic bacteria, dead cells, cancer cells, kidney stones, amyloid-β, and oxidized LDL. It is vital that macrophages function normally. On the other hand, it is likely that we become ill when macrophage function has declined due to aging or stress.

Functions of macrophages

Therefore, it can be said that macrophage-activating LPS is highly useful in preventing health-related troubles or recovering from such troubles.
